AUSTIN INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT: Partners with Junior League of Austin for 34th Annual Coats for Kids

Austin Independent School District issued the following announcement on Dec. 22.

Austin ISD and Coats for Kids didn’t allow a pandemic to slow their mission of bringing some warmth to children this holiday season.

Coats for Kids, in partnership with the Junior League of Austin, is a distribution event that provides over 8,000 winter coats to AISD students every winter.

In past years, Coats for Kids was held at the Palmer Event Center, where students could pick a coat in person. This year, with the help of Parent Support Specialists, families completed a form with a preferred size and color. Coats were distributed to their campus.

“We know that families have so much on their plate this time of year,” said Rachel Pry, Coats for Kids chair. “It means a lot to our community that this program is here year after year to make sure that a winter coat is one thing that families don’t have to worry about. They know that Coats for Kids will be there for them.”

Drivers from the AISD Warehouse and the Science and Health Resource Center delivered the coats to individual campuses. In the end, over 8,000 coats were delivered across the district.

O. Henry Middle School received the award for collecting the most coats this year.

AISD also partnered with the city of Austin to give families who received a coat a free ticket to the annual Austin Trail of Lights drive-thru event at Zilker Park.

For campus distribution information, please contact your campus parent support specialist or counselor.

If you missed the opportunity to request a coat through AISD, please contact Junior League of Austin at cfkcommunitycoats@jlaustin.org for a list of local partner organizations that are participating in Coats for Kids.
